What is the Village?
Most of us aspire to live independently and maintain control over our lives as we age. Yet, as we encounter the natural challenges of aging and health concerns, living independently can become difficult and even isolating.
The Village model provides a solution that allows older adults to age in place with the support of a close-knit community. A Village is a neighborhood-based membership organization governed by its members, where volunteers and staff offer essential services for seniors. These services range from transportation assistance to health and wellness programs, helping seniors confidently stay in their own homes.
A key element of the Village model is social connection for seniors. Village members are linked together, creating a supportive network that offers help with everyday tasks, like preparing meals for a neighbor in need. Many seniors discover that the social events organized within the Village community are among the most rewarding aspects, offering opportunities to connect, make friends, and enjoy shared activities.
By promoting independence, affordable services, and community connections, the Village model provides older adults with a fulfilling way to age in place and stay engaged in life’s most meaningful experiences.
